Engineer standing trial for fraud given GH¢150,000.00 bail

An Accra Circuit Courtroom has granted a bail sum of GH¢150,000.00 with three sureties to {an electrical} engineer for allegedly defrauding by false pretense.

The Courtroom ordered that one of many sureties needs to be a public servant.

Professor Nii Odartey Mills, aged 61, has been charged with defrauding by false pretense, an offence he pleaded not responsible too.

The Courtroom presided over by Mrs Evelyn Asamoah adjourned the case to June 14, 2022.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu, instructed the Courtroom that the complainants, Madam Dorothy Adjei Nortey and Mr Samuel Aryee have been Jail Officer and a retired Civil Servant, respectively.

The Prosecution mentioned the accused individual was an Electrical Engineer.

ASP Yakubu mentioned in 2016, Prof. Mills knowledgeable Madam Nortey and Mr Aryee that he may help their wards to be enrolled at Monroe Nation Neighborhood School in Michigan, USA.

The Prosecution mentioned in 2017, the accused individual then demanded and picked up a complete quantity of $4,500.00 and GH¢10,000.00 from Madam Dorothy Adjei Nortey.

ASP Yakubu mentioned the accused additionally collected a complete quantity of GH¢42,000.00 which was equal to $4,200.00 from Mr Samuel Aryee.

The Prosecution mentioned the cash was for use as “processing and the varsity charges for the complainants’ wards.”

ASP Yakubu mentioned the accused individual once more collected GH¢500.00 from Mr Aryee as his travelling bills to facilitate the method.

It mentioned the accused individual booked an appointment for the candidates on the US Embassy in Accra for his or her respective visas however the candidates have been refused visas on the grounds that their purposes weren’t supported by any paperwork from the varsity within the USA.

The Prosecution mentioned the complainants approached the accused individual and he promised to refund the cash however failed.

ASP Yakubu mentioned a report was made to the Police and the accused individual was arrested.

Additional investigation revealed that the accused individual didn’t course of any admission for the candidates on the Monroe County Neighborhood School.

The Prosecution mentioned the accused did not honour his promise to refund the cash.
